Barbara Matijević diplomirala je diplomira francuski i engleski jezik i književnost na Filozofskom fakultetu u Zagrebu. Plesno se obrazovala u Hypaxis Dance Center, Wilton, New Hampshire, S.A.D. te u Međunarodnom centru za ples i izvedbene umjetnosti “Athena” u Zagrebu pod umjetničkim vodstvom Kiline Cremone.

Plesala u predstavama stranih i domacih koreografa i kompanija: Kilina Cremona, Llinkt! , TRAFIK , Kate Foley, David Hernandez, Irma Omerzo.

Od 2003, realizira prva autorska djela : solo “Re-Play”, zatim « (Hard to) dig it » i “Vertigo”, (u suradnji sa Željkom Sančanin i Sašom Božićem), », te ko-autorski projekt s glumcem Brunom Marinom u predstavi “DA – L’Animal” u Brusselu.

Na poziv francuskog koreografa Borisa Charmatza odlazi 2004. u Francusku gdje sudjeluje u međunarodnom umjetničkom projektu “Bocal”, gdje gostuju i istaknuti umjetnici i teoretičari suvremene izvedbene scene (Vera Mantero, Joao Fiadeiro, Laurence Louppe, Jean-Luc Moulene, Jan Ritsema, Raimund Hoghe, Hubert Godard, Steve Paxton, Frans Poelstra).

2005. realizira u suradnji s fotografima Igorom Kuduzom, Anom Opalić i Jasenkom Rasolom interdisciplinarni projekt “Fotomorgana”, predstavljen na Zagrebačkom Salonu Mladih 2006.

Od 2005. suradjuje sa slovenskim redateljem Bojanom Jablanovcem i umjetničkim kolektivom Via Negativa s kojima je realizirala dva projekta – “Bi ne bi” (2005) i “Viva Verdi” (2006).

Kao glumica surađuje s redateljem Sašom Božićem u predstavi “Sramota”, te s redateljem Joris Lacostom na predstavi “Purgatoire” u Nacionalnom kazalištu La Colline u Parizu.

2007 započinje intenzivnu umjetničku suradnju s Giuseppe Chicom na trilogiji « Teorija performansa budućnosti ili – Jedini spas od masakra jest taj da mu postanemo autori » .

Tri dijela trilogije, I AM 1984 (2008 ; u koprodukciji sa ZeKaeM-om), TRACKS (2009 ; u koprodukciji s Kaaitheatrom, Eurokazom i Lazaretima), FORECASTING (2011 ; u koprodukciji s Kaaitheatrom i festivalom UOVO) do sada su prikazana diljem Europe, ukljucujuci mjesta poput Centar Georges Pompidou, Muzej Jeu de Paume u Parizu, Kaaitheater u Brusselu i Festival d’Avignon. I AM 1984 dobitnik je posebne nagrade međunarodnog žirija na festivalu INFANT u Novom Sadu 2008.

Od 2008 predaje scenski pokret na dramskom odjelu Umjetničke akademije u Osijeku, a kao suradnica za scenski pokret surađivala je s Ozrenom Prohićem (« Dundo Maroje », HNK Zagreb ; « Kraljevo » , HNK Zagreb) i Brankom Brezovcem (« Okovani Galileo », Eurokaz/HNK Rijeka).

Barbara Matijević studied languages and literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. She studied dance at the Hypaxis Dance Centre, Wilton, New Hampshire, U.S.A., and the International centre for dance and performing arts “Athens” under the artistic direction of Kilina Cremona.

She has danced with Kilina Cremona, Llinkt! , TRAFIK , Kate Foley, David Hernandez, and Irma Omerzo.

Since 2003, she has been developing her own pieces : the solo “Re-Play”, followed by « (Hard to) dig it » and “Vertigo”, (both in collaboration with Željka Sančanin and Saša Božić), », and “DA – L’Animal” with Bruno Marin.

Invited by the French choreographer Boris Charmatz, she participated in 2004/2005 in the international project on teaching and learning in dance - “Bocal”, with the guest artists and theoreticians Vera Mantero, Joao Fiadeiro, Laurence Louppe, Jean-Luc Moulene, Jan Ritsema, Raimund Hoghe, Hubert Godard, Steve Paxton, and Frans Poelstra.

In 2005. she realized the interdisciplinary project “Photomorgana” with the photographers Igor Kuduz, Ana Opalić and Jasenko Rasol, presented at the Zagreb Youth Salon 2006.

She collaborated with the Slovenian theatre director Bojan Jablanovac (Via Negativa) in the performances “Would Would Not” (2005) and ‘Viva Verdi” (2006).

She acted in the performance “Disgrace”, directed by Saša Božić, and in the performance “Purgatoire”, directed by Joris Lacoste in the National Theatre Colline in Paris.

In 2007 she started an intensive artistic collaboration with Giuseppe Chico on the trilogy : « On the Theory of Performance to come, or The only way to avoid the massacre is to become its authors ? »

The three parts of the trilogy, I AM 1984 (2008 ; co-produced by ZeKaeM), TRACKS (2009 ; co-produced by the Kaaitheater, Eurokaz and Art Workshop Lazareti), and FORECASTING (2011 ; co-produced by the Kaaitheater and the UOVO Festival) have been shown all around Europe, including places such as Centre Georges Pompidou, Museum Jeu de Paume in Paris, Kaaitheater and the Festival d’Avignon. I AM 1984 won the special prize for innovation by the international jury at the festival INFANT in Novi Sad.

Since 2007, she has been teaching dance history and practice at the Art Academy in Osijek.

She worked as the movement advisor with the directors Ozren Prohić (« Dundo Maroje », Croatian National Theatre, Zagreb ; « Kraljevo » , CNT Zagreb) and Branko Brezovec («Galileo in chains », Eurokaz festival/Croatian National Theater Rijeka).
